February School Council Family Event
The School Council Family Event was a huge success! This was the first time the Bloorview School Council organized a winter event for families. The evening started with everyone gathering to share a meal and then we moved on to the gym. The school staff had organized a number of inclusive and adapted activities that used a variety of Challenger Baseball strategies. Earlier this year, eight Bloorview School staff attended a full day Challenger Baseball in-school programming workshop which enabled our staff to become Challenger Baseball facilitators. For this School Council Family Event, this group of staff facilitators were joined by additional school staff who added face-painting and other fun activities to this school community building event. The goal of Challenger Baseball is to promote “additional opportunities for children and youth with physical and cognitive disabilities to be active, to create healthy habits and to develop a love for sport, community and play.” Certainly this Bloorview School Council family event provided the opportunity for our students, their siblings and parents to experience the benefits of sport and see how programs such as Challenger Baseball are infused into our school curriculum and activities.
We thank the School Council for leading this initiative and coordinating the evening for families. As well, we appreciate the extra efforts of the Bloorview School staff and thank them for making this evening a great success!
